After all the problems we read about, I wonder whether anybody has any comments or experiences about getting value from a pass? Here is ours:We have 2 senior first class IR global passes for 10 days in 2 months, and have the first half of it planned next week. Out of interest I checked the first class turn up and go prices of all the trains we have planned and amazed that these come in at nearly £1000 each and we have a second trip planned after that, which would be many hundreds in fares as well. The routing is:Siracuse to SalernoSalerno to BolognaBologna to NurembergNuremburg to BrusselsOOI our second trip on these passes are currently planned as:Monaco to VeniceVenice to Vienna2 days based in Vienna (Salzburg and Budapest?)Then Vienna to Prague.Brussels to Leeds3 Low cost flights from UK will be about £500 in totaI, compared with a minimum of £900 for home to London then Eurostar.appreciate that could have been dramatically reduced with pre booking saver fares but they don’t have the
I am not sure if my recent experiences trying to book a couple of reservations, well in advance, across Italy are repeated elsewhere but here is my experience. We need to get from Monaco to Venice in September. Trenitalia shows a journey at 0901 with changes at Ventimiglia and Milan, but there seems to no way to book reservations only on their site. Neither OBB or Interrail planner showed this option until today, when the Interrail planner/reservation tool now showed the combination we wanted. Reservations from VM to Milan and Milan to Venice would be needed. OK so far - moved to reservation tool and proceeded to make both reservations. Went to check the cart, entered passenger details and it said one of the legs wasn’t available (The 3 euro intercity from VM). Really???? A basic Intercity 2 months in advance.Back to the planning phase. Now, with Monaco to Venice as search, it seemed that the VM to Milan had disappeared and the suggested option included 3 changes to Milan. Then tried si
As a resident of the UK I appreciate an Interrail Global pass allows one day usage from the UK and one back. However as we live in the north that would entail an early start to London and then an afternoon Eurostar to Paris/Brussels. Although theoretically a further jump on an evening TGV or ICE could be achieved, that is not appealing. So we plan to utilise “cheap” flights to connect with continental rail points. It seems somewhat expensive with Eurostar and TGV booking fees. With a 10 day in 2 months first class pass we plan to split it into 2 trips. One flying to Catania, a couple of nights in Syracuse, train to Salerno, next day to Bologna for 2 nights, then through alps to Nuremberg for a few nights then back via Brussels. The second, 4 weeks later, is planned as flight to Nice for 2 nights in Monaco/Beausoleil, across to Venice for 2 nights, through the Alps to Vienna for a couple of days. Then on to Prague for a couple of nights before a flight home. Are these realistic itineraries?
Has anybody experience of the Konus travel card for free regional public transport around the Black Forest? It seems if you are staying at many of the hotels/B&Bs in the Black Forest you get a free travel card for the duration of your stay.https://bw.tourismusnetzwerk.info/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/KONUS-Flyer-PDF-Download_GB.pdfObviously not of value for continuous passes but for those on X days in Y months it could be an excellent added value. Also there is a Bavaria daily ticket allowing unlimited travel (again only on regional trains) over a large area that is 24Euro for one plus 8 euro per extra passenger.https://www.bahn.com/en/offers/regional/regional-day-ticket-for-bavariaAny views welcomed.
I have just joined the community and see that there is an issue with interrail passes that were supposedly automatically extended to August this year, but are now showing as expired. I realised yesterday (18/05) that my passes had also disappeared as I prepared to use them in a few weeks time. I have contacted interrail but, like others, have only received the automatic reply that they are very busy.Has anybody yet succeeded in getting their passes revived yet. I have tried the “solutions” suggested in earlier posts with Zero success.
