We are planning to travel in May some days from The Netherlands to Paris to Barcelona and back.

We can't seem to find what is the most handiest way to travel

  • We don't see much difference with 1st and 2nd class?
  • Probably for such long er trips there will always come a space available, so is it really neccesary to reserve spots?
  • Would a 4 days pass be enough to do our travel?

Direct trains from Netherlands - Paris (Thalys) and Paris - Barcelona (SNCF TGV) both are compulsory reservation, you cannot just turn up and travel without a reservation.

The cost of reservatons need to be added to passes, both these services charge hefty reservation fees for passholders and Thalys have limited quotas. It may be cheaper to buy regular tickets for your chosen dates, you should compare before you commit.
