Not a Eurail question really. I am from Australia and my friend and I want to see some out of the way places and are considering hiring a car rather than buses and trains. However we drive on the left side of the road. Is it safe and is it very hard?? We would only do it in the regional areas not in the cities and big towns.

If you want to drive on the left side you need to go to the UK or Ireland.
It is impossible to say if you will find it difficult or not to drive on the right side. You need to pay attention all the time and I would consider renting a car with automatic transmission.
I have been driving in Ireland and in the UK. It was tricky, especially in the beginning. And the roundabouts make you confused.
