Itinerary planning, device and seat reservation

Hi,

Ada from Australia here and totally new!
I'm planning this itinerary starting May 10th:

Day 1 - Turin Italy) to Munich
Day 2 - Munich to Vienna
Day 3 - Vienna to Prague
Day 4 - Prague to Dresden
Day 5- Dresden to Berlin
Day 6 - Berlin to Paris
Day 7 - Paris to Turin

staying in every town 2-4 nights.

Thinking to buy a 7 days Pass. I did some homework and  I will save some money, even with the Seat reservation fees, plus the freedom to change plans.

Question 1: to use/show the e-pass on your phone do I need an internet connection? This is because I do not have the phone that I’ll use in Italy at the moment, and I’m doingn everything on may australian phone. When in Europe I willuse it only with wi-fi and not the data.

Question 2: on Seat61 I found this advice for the ICE Berlin Paris: “Do not make a normal seat-reservation-only booking for €5.20 on Germany-Paris TGVs/ICEs using int.bahn.de, as you would for other German trains.  On TGV/ICE trains to/from Paris this is not sufficient as (a) the required passholder fee is significantly more than this and (b) you need a special passholder reservation taken from the limited quota for passholders”. Where can I do the reservation? Raileurope.com?

Question3: How many day before is a reasonable time to activate the pass? I need some seat reservation on the first leg (Turin to Munich)so I’m worried if I need to activate in April and do the seat reservation or waiting beginnin of May (as my start day will be May 10th)

Thank you!

Ada

The app does not need to be online to show the pass. It does need a connection to activate, activate a travel day and at least once every 2 days.

You don’t need to activate a pass to make reservations, in most cases you don’t even need to have bought one first while some sites do require you to put in a pass number.

The pass reservation page of seat 61 has all the relevant links in one place https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm#Germany

You can reserve the Germany - France with the added fee from DB at the link provided or from Rail Europe.

Thank you very much! I will have wi-fi available but mostly in the evening, so I can activate without problems. The seat reservation for the ICE Berlin-Paris will open later, but I have others I prefer to book early and I can start to do it. Thank you

They open 180 days in advance, so you should be able to book. On the DB page to book this train, do NOT use "Book seat only”.

Seats on the Berlin-Paris train are booked here, 17 EUR per person, family discount available if there is a child under 15 in the group.

Reservation should be available for your travel date.
