I want to buy Eurail tickets, but when I tried (practice run) to book seats for the Munich to Budapest train on August 26, it read “all booked up.” I tried every train on that date and with the same result - all booked up. I’ve read on travel forums that this is most likely not the case (that it is in fact not all booked up). I can’t proceed with buying Eurail passes as long as this is leg of the trip is not available to us. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

It’s not sold out. The reason why you won’t get a reservation is that there is track construction going on on this route and all direct trains will get a new timetable between Linz and Budapest that is not confirmed yet. To do a reservation, you may use Tickets & services (oebbtickets.at), but there will be a revised timetable and you need to wait until it is confirmed (no date announced for this).
It’s possible to do a reservation for trains that don’t go directly (e.g. starting in Wien for Budapest), but of course this is less convenient and you don’t know exactly when you’d be arriving in Wien by connecting trains.
BTW: There’s no mandatory reservation on this route. You may also board without a reservation. So it will be no problem to do this trip at all.
