Hi, on the direct train from Amsterdam to Cologne on the Rail Europe site there is no charge, but I can’t add the booking to reserve the seats (I assume it is because there is not a seated reservation fee to be paid). If I then go to the exact same train and journey to the Eurail site, there is a supplement charge they want to charge.

Kindly assist, why is there supplement charge on Eurail site, and why can’t I add the booking on the Rail Europe site, which has no charge.

With thanks

There is no supplement for pass holders. Reservations are optional. You can book them for €3 on tickets.oebb.at or for €5.20 (1st class €6.50) on bahn.de with seat selection.

@Eurail Community Moderator can this warning about a supplement be removed from the ICEs from/to Amsterdam? It's only necessary for some domestic tickets, not for international tickets, including passes.

Many thanks for the response.

Is there a way to add this then to my booking? As it seems when there is no seat res then you can’t add it ahead of time, would that be correct?

What do you mean by "booking” exactly? If you mean adding the train to your pass in the app, that doesn't book anything. It's just the digital equivalent of writing a train in the trip report of a paper pass. You can do it at any point before boarding the train but there's no need to do that a long time in advance.

Hi @rvdborgt, there seems to be an issue with MERITS, and we’re still waiting on a revision from the external stakeholder. Thank you for letting us know again and for your patience!

Ok that makes sense now, thank you.
