1st Class tickets, no availability. Can I get money back?

We bought four 1st class tickets but have not been able to use them due to all seats in first class being reserved. Is there a way to get a refund as we were not informed that we would need seat reservations on every train for an extra fee?

It is your responsibility as a traveller with Eurail pass to check that you have the necessary reservations for trains with mandatory reservations. It is rather uncommon to be asked to leave a train with optional reservation, but it can happen for safety reasons if the train is too crowded.

On the Eurail website there is information that certain trains require mandatory reservation.
