Question About Direct Trains Not Shown in Rail Planner App

We plan to travel round-trip from Amsterdam to Düsseldorf using a Eurail Global Pass.

When we check the Rail Planner app, the travel time is shown as about 4 hours with transfers. However, on the official DB website, a direct train is shown with a travel time of about 2 hours. The results are very different.

Since we are required to show the QR code in the Rail Planner app when boarding, we would like to ask:
Are we allowed to take the direct train that does not appear in the Rail Planner app, or can we only use the trains shown in the app?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Kind regards,

You can take any train covered by the pass, regardless of whether it appears in the app. The app is incomplete, often not up to date and unreliable, which is why you should never use it to plan. Normally, it will have been updated by the time you travel. If not, you can any missing train manually.

Thank you for the explanation. We understand your point about the Rail Planner app.

We have checked the app several times, but we still can’t find how to add a missing train manually. Could you please explain how to do this?

Thank you also for the advice about asking questions in the community. We appreciate your help.

We found how to add the train manually. Trains added this way show the comment “Manual entry” in My Trip. We understand that we can travel using this, but please let us know if there is anything else we should keep in mind.

Thank you very much for your help.

@Haruka

On the day of travel, you must activate the journey before boarding and check if you have a ticket (QR code). However, you should always do this, even if the trains appear in the rail planner. In Amsterdam, you will already need this code to open the access gates to the station.

Manual entries cannot be used to show the statistics and the map. For this reason I would check again if the train is really not available shortly before departure, But it is only nice to have for you, not for the train staff.

@Danhiel

Thank you for the clarification.

Just to confirm, may we assume that the QR code generated for a manually added train will also allow us to pass through the access gates at Amsterdam station?

We understand that the final situation may depend on the actual operating conditions on the day of travel, but we would appreciate your confirmation on this point.

Kind regards,

Yes, the QR code will work just fine.
