I will be travelling by train from Schiphol Airport to Ghent in Belgium using a Global Pass. Can I also use this pass to get from the city center of Amsterdam to Schiphol Airport by train? And in Munich, what can the Global Pass be used for, apart from trains? I know that I can't use it for public transportation (buses and the subway) in most cities. But I heart it can be used for the S-Bahn in Germany. Is that true? Thanks Ghent, good choice :). I hope you enjoy my city. You obviously can use your pass for whichever train in Belgium and the Netherlands. So if you add Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol, and then Ghent via the pass, is perfectly possible. No worries. But! You wouldn’t even have to switch trains if you leave from Amsterdam Centraal. Just hop on the direct IC to Brussel-Zuid (stops in Antwerpen where you need to switch train to Ghent), without mandatory reservations (unlike Thalys) and it only takes a half hour longer. S-bahn (or s-trains) are trains. So you can take them wi
I presume you have a global pass? Then the “Bedingung” it’s just a message you can ignore. It usually states that you can take some international trains with a one country pass for Germany. The ICE to Brussels is one of them. For the rest it might be a warning that you need to provide sufficient time for your transfer to Eurostar. Due to security and identity checks. You have to be at the channel terminal generally 45 min before departure and that you need your international passport. In summer there tend to be longer queues as well, due to high demand, so the earlier, the better usually :).Nothing to really worry about. Enjoy your trip!
Don’t worry, this isn’t a problem. Happens the best :)
And then there's an incomprehensible sentence about “journeys with origin or destination in the Sud and the Occitanie region” for which Interrail and Eurail (and other cards) would not be valid anymore either. That incomprehensible sentence technically/judicially means that you can make a trip from Pierrelatte (just outside of the PACA-region) to Ventimiglia (Italy) to circumvent the rules. (If you should want to travel via TER.Since it says “journeys with origin or destination in the Sud and the Occitanie region” and not trains. You might end up having a discussion with the guard though…But technically, the rules allow it.
@AnnaB No, but the person not travelling via Interrail/Eurail can choose a seat close by via this way. That could save a phone call and extra costs ;)
If you book a train via SNCF-connect, you can usually choose a seat where you want to sit close/next to. Although this isn’t always possible, due to high occupancy. But usually you sit in the same carriage.
In Belgium/Luxemburg I can recommend the lines through the Ardennes-region:Liège-Welkenraedt,Liège-Gouvy-(Luxembourg)Liège-Marloie.It’s often a good idea to step out of a station and hike to another one :)
Sometimes it helps to split your journey in two parts? I recently also had troubles reserving for an EC from Zagreb, I split the reservation in two parts, with an interchange in Villach. Downside is a bit of an extra cost.Although a lot of night trains seem very popular this summer, I read an article that almost everything was fully booked.
Hello fellow railtrotters! My name is Brendan, living in Ghent, Belgium. If you haven’t visited it yet, please to. It has a lot more to offer than Bruges ;) I started interrailing in 2016, when I did a Scandinavia trip with my best friends. Since then I discovered the joys and comfort of long-distance train travel and me and my friends are completely hooked to it. Every year I did at least a trip since then.Slowly but gradually convincing (and helping) everyone that wants to try it, to discover Europe by rail. It’s a much more relaxed way of trotting around, provinding ideal combinations between cultural city trips and outies in nature.Professionally, I work in the spatial planning department of the goverment, trying to make our patch of earth a bit more sustainable. I was also active in an organisation promoting sustainable travel. In spare time, I like hiking, biking and swimming and travelling by train.Any questions about hidden gems in Belgium, shoot. Happy to help you! All the bes
