There are indeed no international trains from/to Greece for a few years. This is mainly due to political tensions but also due to the lack of investment in cross-border railways.
You have 2 options :
- ferry from Italy to Patras (discount with Eurail) + bus Patras - Kiato and train to Athens (all covered)
- bus from Sofia to Thessaloniki (not included, no discount)
