Do I have to make a seat reservation here, or can I just board the train?

You can just board but it can be quite busy. Reservations are €3 on tickets.oebb.at in 2nd class, free of charge in 1st class.

Cheapest option would be probably to make a seat reservation from Hegyeshalom if you want one (optional). Would cost probably a bit more than 1€. Check on MAV website
