What is supposed to be my outbound/inbound journey? Is it compulsory to use those days?

Hi, I'm new to interrail and I don’t understand outbound/inbound journey 😕

My home country is Italy: I’m planning a trip that goes from Italy to France on the interrail 5 days in 1 month pass.

1 day: Domodossola (Italy) - Locarno (Switzerland) - Zurigo (Switzerland) (2 trains)

2 day: Zurigo (Switzerland) etc

I’ll come back in Italy by plane so what’s supposed my outbound/inbound journey?

Thanks 🙏🏻

The Inbound/Outbound days can be used for up to 2days in your Country of Residence to leave (Outbound) and enter (Inbound).

It´s not compulsory to use these days.

On your way from Domodossola via Locarno to Zürich  you use the Outbound journey :)

Your inbound  journey can be used from the Airport you land to your HomeTown :) (Still a travelday out of the 5 needed :) )
