Night train reservation and adding it to the trip

We are a family of 3 and although frequent train travelers in Europe, this is the first time we are using the Interrail pass and… we are a bit confused. :)

We will be traveling on the 5th of July using the Global Pass 7 days in a month in its mobile pass version. The outbound journey is from Vienna Hbf to Peschiera del Garda, which we want to do using the NJ233 (direct).

It’s peak summer and a Saturday to boot, so we thought of reserving the tickets asap. Reservations are already available on the OeBB website for this journey (I’m able to buy the ticket using the Interrail discount as shown in your instructions and videos), but the NJ233 does not show up on the Planner in the App for that date.

My question is, after buying the reservation on the OeBB website, how to I add this journey to my trip? Should I do it manually, or just wait till it becomes available on the Planner and then add it? I’m under the impression that I need to have this journey on my trip (and that of my family members) so that we can generate the QR code as a ticket to board the train. Or we just need to use activate this day as a travel day on the app and show the reservation from OeBB in the train?

Sorry, it’s probably a dumb question, but I’m still getting my way around how to pair the reservations with the need to have a QR code for the ticket for each journey.

Thank you very much in advance!

It doesn’t matter if the train doesn’t appear in the app. You can add it manually, or you can wait until closer to the time to see if it appears in a timetable update.

You already have your reservation, you just need to have the train in My Trip before departure. You’re right - that’s what generates the QR code that is your ticket (Although the train manager will probably be more interested in the reservation). There’s no hurry to do it now.

Thanks a lot for the quick clarification! It’s really helpful. I guess I can take this as the general blueprint: do the reservations and worry later about adding the journeys to the trip as they become available (or add them manually if they don’t show up). All the best!
