Will traveling through country of residence use an in/outbound day?

It might help to understand the In/Out rule.
During any Global pass you are allowed to travel in your own country for a maximum of 2 travel days (out of your total travel days).
These can be totally in your country or across borders and at any time during the pass validity period. They are totally in your control as to how and when you use them.
So if you are starting outside your country you could use one of them to pass through your country, but plan carefully, even a small journey crossing your country will trigger the I/O day.
Remember that a travel day starts at 0000 and ends at 2359 (CET) and covers all trains you board with a scheduled start time before 2359, including night trains. If you board trains scheduled after 2359 you need another travel day.
To be clear though if you cross Germany, even without a stop, you need one of those 2 days.
