Hi there,

I’ve Eurail Global Pass and trying to figure out my train from Amsterdam Centraal to Brussels Midi.  I’m getting so many conflicting answers including from Eurail chat who said I’ll have to pay small supplement.

The answers I’ve read: (1) if u’ve “international” travel, then u don’t need to pay Supplement when using IC/ICD/EuroStar, (2) u pay Supplement if you go through Schiphol Airport/Rotterdam route, (3) travel from Amsterdam Zuid instead of Centraal and u  can get on EC/EC Direct and don’t have to pay.

My travel date is April 12, leave Amsterdam in the afternoon around 5pm or so.  I’ll be at Centraal but can travel to Amsterdam Zuid, if needed to start the journey.  
These are some routes I’m able to find but not clear on if it requires Supplement.

** Amsterdam Centraal > Schiphol Airport > Brussels MIDI (I believe this one requires Supplement)

** Amsterdam Centraal > Rotterdam > Brussels Midi (will this still require Supplement?  I didn’t think so but Eurail chat service sent me a response that it’ll require a small Supplement cause it goes thru Schiphol Airport… in that case, can’t I use a different train that doesn’t go through Schiphol airport to avoid Supplement?)

Also, I see lot more train for this day on nsinternational.com that’s not showing up on Rail Planner app.  Is it cause it’s still too early to show all the route for April?

What’s the best way to travel this route from Amsterdam to Brussels MIDI on April 12 without having to pay for Supplement?

I get your confusion.

If you take the Intercities, Eurocities or EuroCity Direct (IC/EC/ECD) on this route you don’t have to pay anything extra when using an interrail/eurail pass.

Just register your train in the app, and show the qr-code of the app upon inspection like you do on any train without mandatory reservations.

If you plan to take the Eurostar (EST), a seat reservation is necessary. These are pricey for such a short distance, and not recommended.

Tried and tested this many times for you, with many other train travellers. There’s no extra cost with IC/EC/ECD. Only a very persistent bug/information issue that states you need a supplement to travel with the IC/EC/ECD on the Dutch High Speed Line. But when travelling with Interrail/eurail, you don’t have to pay this supplement, nor will you be asked about it by staff. You can trust us on this one.

Edit: P.S. Don’t use the rail planner of Eurail/Interrail to plan. It doesn’t update as often. Use the national operators websites or app, or one like www.bahn.com or www.sbb.ch/en  that encompasses up-to-date timetable information for almost all Europe. Re-check the planner a couple of days/2-3 weeks before departure, to check for any engineering works. There tend to be quite some works around the Easter holidays.

The EuroCity and EuroCityDirect trains don’t require any supplement or reservation if you have a Eurail pass. They are marked as EC and ECD in the planners. 

Eurostar (EST) require a very expensive seat reservation (22€) on top of your pass. Not worth to pay as you have the alternatives mentioned above.

It doesn’t matter if you travel through Schiphol Airport AFAIK.

Anyway, the Eurostar trains aren’t running this weekend due to track works in the Netherlands as mentioned in the other topic:
