Are there alternative ways other than the Leonardo express that takes you from Rome termini to the main airport?

Local tix In IT are generally ONLY valid for next train-or must be used whithin 2 or 3 hrs after sale.
Should be no problem to buy a ticket on the day.
Side note which Airport (Rome have several) but as you mentioned the LeonardoExpress i guess rome fiumicino
From Roma Tiburtania you can catch normal regionaltrains to the Airport (FL1)
From Termini itself goes only the Leonardo Express
