No reservations needed from Lucerne to Milan if you change trains in Lugano. And I guess you want to travel the Gottard panoramic route and not through the Gottard Base tunnel.

What's the USD 170 for? It would help to show the exact connection.

In any case, you can do this journey without reservations if you want, or with just 1 €13 reservation Milan-Venice if you want to be a bit faster.

my  original thought was to take the Eurocity from Arth-Goldau to Milan and then Frecciarossa from Milan to Florence. Each of those trains seat selection was $84.00 for 2 people. So I just rounded up to $170.00usd in total.

No, this is very likely the price of regular tickets. Where did you see such price?

The Eurocity costs 13€ on top of your Eurail pass, same for the Frecciarossa. So maximum 2 x 2 x 13€ = 52€ or 56 USD (though better to use €).

As suggested, this can be lowered to 2 x 13€ (= 26€) by taking reservation-free trains to Milan and then the reservation-required Frecciarossa to Florence.
