activating the passes

Hi team

we are coming to Europe in May and I had a few more questions.

  1. We are travelling in May but the global pass train from Rome to Paris with only one connection change in Milan has limited seats. How can I secure the seats in that line before without having to activate the pass? ( if we activate the pass now then we have 1 month to use it but we are coming next month)
  2. Are there police in the train stations and at what times we are worried about pick pockets in some of our destinations travelling with kids

your assistance is greatly appreciated!

The best way to deal with pickpockets is to not make yourself a target, criminals look for easy marks.

Keep all your valuables secure in zipped inside pockets or inside bags, never have wallets bulging out of back pockets or in open jacket pockets. The same for phones, if not using it have a secure pocket for it that you always use.

You never need to activate the Pass to make reservations.

As above, don’t make yourself (or your family) easy marks.

Have the others beside you (looking out, not at the screen) when standing at a ticket machine trying to work out which buttons to push.

Have your passports in inside zipped pockets and just get into the routine of having a quick check (just pat your pocket, don’t take them out) that they are still there every time you sit down/get up/get on or off a train.

Ensure that whoever has the valuables keeps their wits about them, and don’t all be stereotypical tourists at the same time.  It’s fine to be a stereotypical tourist (I am, sometimes) but make sure someone is taking care.
