aris to Luxembourg (Aug 23) - Rail replacement bus & seat reservation query

Hi everyone!

I’m planning a trip from Paris Est to Luxembourg on August 23rd (departing at 10:40 AM and arriving at 1:33 PM) using a 1st Class Interrail Pass.

Looking at the timetable, part of the journey is operated by a rail replacement bus. However, when I try to book my seat reservation through the Interrail self-service tool, it only allows me to reserve the seat for the TGV train segment.

I’d appreciate your help with a couple of quick questions:

  1. Is the seat reservation only required and possible for the TGV portion of the route?

  2. For the replacement bus, is it enough to just show my active Interrail Pass on the Rail Planner app when boarding?

Reservations are required for this TGV bus replacement and they're an extra €10 (very expensive compared to the price of a normal ticket). They can be booked on happyrail.com.

You can reserve a seat in the TGV between Paris and Metz.

It seems to be impossible to reserve seats in the direct buses in connection with the TGV with an Interrail pass. You can try to take the bus without reservation. If the access is denied, you can also take a regional train from Metz to Thionville and a bus from this station.

Is this a secure website for booking seats with Interrail passes?

Is there another route that might be more convenient to get from Paris to Luxembourg quickly on August 23rd?Thank you

I don’t think there’s any reasonable alternative route.

If you can rearrange to travel on the Monday, the line is open again, and you can go by direct TGV.

Happyrail is a trustworthy website. There are many websites where you can book reservations. None of them can book all reservations though. The best overview of where best to book for which train is this page:

Good question. This is because the booking system that we now use for TVGs (which have changed recently) has not shared that availability with us yet, and I'm not sure if they ever will. I will escalate the matter to the reservations specialist and see what they say.

If Happyrail has access, then that should also be possible for you. In addition, SNCF may well be obliged to allow access.
