When looking at a route form Florence SMN to Bologna there are two options for Bologna train station (Bologna city and Bologna centrale). Are these the same or different because when I put in the exact same route, the arrivals time at Bologna city is 25 ish minutes before Bologna centrale. If I want to be in the city centre, is Bologna central the correct station to arrive at?

If you are referring to the interrail app, Bologna city is a general term that will show trains to more than one station, it is not an actual destination.

Centrale is the main station, Bologna S. Ruffillo is used as the terminus for some regional trains.

Which station is best for your plans is another question, I suggest you use google maps or another map service to figure out which station is the best for you, chances are you would have to change at Centrale for most others.
