Can I travel on an Interrail pass at any time of the day?

Hi,

I searched, but couldn’t find a suitable answer. Are there restrictions to times you can travel with an Interrail pass? I need to get from Cestas (near Bordeaux) to Mansfield in the UK for a short trip. Basically, a day’s travel, a day’s visit and a day’s travel back. I’ve done it for the last couple of years by booking two sets of tickets on the Trainline, but this would make it simpler (and cheaper).

Yes of course you can use your Pass at any time of the day. Just keep in mid that you have some mandatory resrvations on that Route (Eurostar at 30€ + highspeed trains in france). The eurostar has a limited passholder quota so it is important to reserve early(as it can otherwise happen that no reservations are available anymore for people with an interrail pass)

(no idea if this actually is the cheaper option) Just keep in mind that you can use the global pass only on 2 days in your home country.

Thanks, Marvin! So, the Interrail ticket doesn’t cover the reservations, that’s interesting. Apart from the Cestas to Bordeaux leg, I’m pretty sure I need reservations on every other train. That might make the ticket less value, but it’s a bit chicken and egg - I can’t find out about these specific seat reservations without buying a pass and I’m not ready for that yet (I’d be going next February).

Seat 61 has a good guide to reservation costs.

Nothing in the UK, €35 on Eurostar, €10 or €20 on domestic TGVs.

Trainline will give you a good guide to cash prices, although I don’t recommend booking there, because of the fees.

All reservation prices and availability can be checked without buying a pass. Even on the Interrail website if you add a pass with a fake paper pass cover number. But since that booking page is not reliable, I don't recommend it, and you should rather follow Seat61's advice.
