Copenhagen to Hamburg on 26 August

Hi,

New to the forum, but have ‘done’ a couple of Interrail trips in the past couple of years.

Am going to be travelling from Copenhagen to Hamburg and then onto Nuremberg on 26 August. As I understand, seat reservations are compulsory on the direct trains between Copenhagen and Hamburg in the summer months, and these are extremely popular with demand outstripping supply, so I’m keen to book the seats asap.

I note seat reservations aren’t yet available on the DSB website. Bahn.de, however, is showing services for that day and is suggesting a change at Fredericia. The Interrail website says the same thing, adding that reservations are optional.

Is this correct? I note looking at dates before 26 August trains are terminating at Hamburg Altona, so I’m wondering if there are engineering works that day that mean the direct trains cannot run?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You'll be able to book it here yes but you are too early, wait for a month (available 60 days in advance)

Hamburg - Nuremberg (and other trains in Germany) : 3€ per train (free with a 1st class pass) on tickets.oebb.at or 4.50€ per journey (5.90€ 1st class) on bahn.de

tickets.oebb.at is great and works in many countries

As far as I can see trains are running to Hamburg Hbf on 26th August. Use bahn.de for planning

Thanks. That was the link I was using. I’ll hold off for a month or so then.

Have looked again and there aren’t any direct Copenhagen - Hamburg trains showing on Bahn.com between 0726 and 1126. Is this correct? Or will the 0926 run?

If the 0926 isn’t going to run, I’ll need to change at Fredericia which isn’t a huge problem at all. Are the Fredericia - Hamburg trains subject to compulsory reservations like the Copenhagen - Hamburg services? The Interrail app says it isn’t, but I thought I’d double-check.

Thanks.

Per https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/hamburg-to-copenhagen-by-train.htm the 09:26 direct train only runs between 17th June and 20th August. Not sure about the mandatory reservation but I'd make one 100%
