DB Paris to Germany ICE Train Seat Reservation - "Train cannot be reserved at the moment"`

I’m on the DeutscheBahn website and am trying to book a seat reservation for two ICE trains since I have an EURail Pass. I am hoping for this trip since I am hoping to leave as late as possible in the afternoon while getting back to Berlin before too late (especially since DB is notorious for being delayed/late these days).

The first ICE trip from Paris to Mannheim says the train cannot be reserved at the moment. Does that mean if I book this, I won’t have a reservation for the first train, Paris to Mannheim? Would I even need a reservation if it’s an ICE train or do I need a seat reservation regardless since it’s a train in France?

Thanks!

Actually, DB doesn’t sell the reservation you need for the Paris-Mannheim train.

@ralderton DB does sell those reservations for the ICE to/from Paris , but you need to buy them via the special link to "Passzuschlag ", see below.

Actually, DB doesn’t sell the reservation you need for the Paris-Mannheim train.

Eurail passholders have to buy a more expensive reservation - it’s compulsory on the French part of the journey. You can get this at raileurope.com - add your rail pass in the search box and search for Paris-Mannheim. You should see it on sale for €19.

You can reserve the second ICE with DB, but it’s cheaper on the ÖBB website (€3).

@AnnaB oh wow, thank you!

The only issue is when I click through I get the following message that the reservation cannot be made… Do you know why that might be the case? Hopefully I can go to the DB help desk at the Berlin Hbf and get them to book the ticket otherwise I’m not sure the best way forward to get the most affordable price.

There might still be uncertainties in the timetable. When that's the case, they don't release seat reservations.

I'm only slightly exaggerating but all Germany is disrupted on Easter weekend lol

- Basel-Frankfurt closed

- Nürnberg-Erfurt closed

- Kassel-Fulda closed

- half of Berlin Hbf closed

- and so on

I can add this reservation Paris-Mannheim to my basket on www.raileurope.com. It’s €19 there.

Thanks for this @rvdborgt So, I suppose I could just reserve the ticket to Mannheim and when I get there on that day, take the next train to Berlin with my EURail Global Rail Pass? Thanks for all of your help!

Sure you can. Reservations in Germany are optional.
