Delay compensation - whole journey or each connection?

Hello,

I’m gearing up to apply for delay compensation.

On the inbound journey, two of our trains were delayed by 40 minutes each. This meant we missed connecting trains and ended up arriving 2 hours 15 minutes after our original arrival time.

When submitting my claim for compensation, do I detail each individual delay for each separate section of the journey or one entry for the overall trip for that day?

Thanks

If you have a pass, then you can claim compensation:

  1. On the pass, from Interrail/Eurail: €12 for a delay of at least 1 hour, €24 for 2 hours or more.
  2. On the reservation/supplement, usually from the place where you booked, or from the carrier. 25% of the price after a delay of at least 1 hour, 50% for 2 hours or more, with a minimum of €4, so reservation price needs to be high enough.

In principle, the delay of the whole journey is what counts.

As a matter of interest are you claiming compensation from the carrier, or from Interrail?  If from the carrier (and depending on the country) you may be entitled to compensation per leg.  I don’t have much experience of claiming compensation other than from airlines.

I claimed from EUrail/Interrail because I didn’t have any reference numbers that Deutsche Bahn would recognise. The process of claiming compensation from EUrail/ Interrail was pretty straightforward.
