There are engineering works on that railway between 21st August and 10th September. You'll have to take a rail replacement bus from Domodossola. For example :
- EC Brig - Domodossola 08:44 - 09:12
- Bus Domodossola - Milano Centrale 09:27 - 12:17
It takes longer but there is a good margin included. Seat reservations are not necessary nor possible I believe, does someone know ?

+11If the replacement bus is for the local train than a reservation is not possible. If it is a replacement bus for the EC than reservation compulsory on the bus.
