I am looking a my train options for my Europe trip, many of the trains say that the ticket reservation is optional. When I put them in my cart they have an extra charge. Is this just because I am choosing to book in advance or is this the standard price of the train that I would pay whether I book in advance or not? Also is this worth it to book in advance when it is optional?

Reservations usually cost money, depending on operator, train and where you book them. Eurail add a €2 booking fee per person and train, meaning it's almost always cheaper to book elsewhere.

For advice whether or not to book optional reservations, route, date and departure time are needed.
