We are going on a 22 day train trip thru Europe. We have a 22 day Eurail pass. Our journey begins and ends in Paris. We pretty much have our itinerary in place from Paris to Budapest, but are having trouble deciding where to go and what to see between Graz and Interlaken. It’s our understanding that the train from Salzburg to Zurich is a scenic route, but we’re just not interested in seeing a lot of cities. We would rather smaller scenic areas. Any suggestions?

Do you want to stay somewhere overnight? How long?
In my opinion that journey is long but still fairly reasonable in a day using the direct train to Zurich, scenic route included:
- EC Graz Hbf - Zürich HB 09:45 - 19:20 (dining car available)
- Zürich HB - Bern - Interlaken Ost every half hour
Thanks for your response. I wasn’t very clear. We would love to do the scenic route, Graz, Salzburg to Zurich, but feel it is a long journey with no stops. Is there another route from Graz to Interlaken that doesn’t take you through the larger centers, but smaller towns/villages? We would like to stay somewhere, yes, say for 2 to 3 days and maybe take day trips to see other smaller scenic areas.

The Graz - Zurich EC stops 26 times. I'm sure you can find a nice little village along the way. Look up the route and the places.
imo Zell am See is too touristy and not "near Switzerland enough" so I'd search after Innsbruck.
