Question

eurostar and last minute trip planning

I am looking to travel end of July - we are a group travelling on a mix of Interail and Eurail from the UK to France and then within France. Is it too late to try to make this trip with interail / eurail? Do you think I will have a problem finding seats in trains (including TGV and Eurostar) for 6 people? (and preferably seating together)?
How much does the seat reservation with eurostar costs?

Am I right that I need to buy the Global pass or global pass plus because I start in the UK?

Use this guide for everything related to reservations: https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

It’s not “too late” to do this trip with Interrail. Except for Eurostar and TGV Brussels - France, you can book every train with Interrail as long as regular tickets are on sale. However, some trains in France may be already sold out or at least heavily booked.

Eurostar availability and prices is best checked (and booked for such a large group) here: https://www.b-europe.com/EN/Booking/Pass#TravelWish

For France, use this page: https://travel.b-europe.com/Eurail-GE/en/booking-tgv#TravelWish

Global pass is indeed the way to go for you.

Eurostar availability in summer is usually quite okay, but do not wait to book. Might be difficult to find a spot for 6 on weekends, but during weekdays that still should be possible. Eurostar costs 30 - 35 EUR per reservation, quite pricey. Check the links mentioned above.

TGV reservations are a bit better priced 10 or 20 EUR per seat, per train. But gets expensive quickly. There are some options to avoid it, by taking regional trains.

Alternatively buying normal tickets, potentially for the low cost OuiGo’s, can cut your prices. You better grab a spreadsheet and start comparing the prices for normal tickets vs. interrail + reservation cost.
