Hi, I heard about the high possibility of the strike on Jan 8, 2024.  Problem is that we have non-refundable tickets from Amsterdam to Frankfurt on Deutch ban on Jan. 8.  What would our choices be if the strike goes through?  It is imperative that we arrive back in Frankfurt before Jan. 9 as we have a flight back home to the US on the 10th.  We looked into buying new tickets on the 7th, but that is more than double the price of what we originally paid for.

There are Flixbus tickets for 35€ on 8th or 25€ on 9th January. It’s a 7h journey though but that way you don’t have to travel a day earlier.

You’ll get the train tickets refunded if the strike happens (likely it does at some point but I’ve not seen a date confirmation).

On 7th there are also late afternoon trains via Venlo for 28-38€ but if the strike is announced your tickets will likely be valid on any previous train on Sunday (expect them to be packed).

If there's a strike, you can often use your tickets not only after the strike but also on the day before, without the need to rebook. DB will post information shortly after a strike is announced. And you might even be able to travel on the planned date.

In any case, don't cancel your tickets. Should you need a refund because of the strike, that can also be dealt with later.
