Global Pass using for two trips

Hello Interrail community,

I bought the global pass 15 days within 2 months. Within this trip I would like to go on the first month on a big trip (visiting 4 countries and several cities, but of course starting from my country of residence) using about 11 travel days and on the second month (weeks later after my first trip) i want to travel to only one other country/destination.

I read, that you are only allowed to travel twice within your county of residence. So does that mean, when my first trip ends, the way from my origin country and back is not included anymore for my second trip?

The second trip would be from Austria (country of residence) to Amsterdam.

Thanks a lot for your time and help!

Kind regards,

Andreas

You normally have two inbound/outbound days included in your pass. These are not extra days, you just have the right to travel in your own country on those two days. You can take as many trains as necessary to get out of the country.

If you use them for your first trip, you’ll need to have normal tickets to the nearest border point (Salzburg e.g. counts as a German and Austrian station). From that border point, you can use the pass again as much as you want or need. You’ll need to get out of the country before being able to use the pass again.

It’s not that you need to buy a normal ticket for the entire journey Austria-Netherlands, just a normal ticket to the nearest border point on your route.

Let us say you live in Vienna. When travelling to Amsterdam, the most direct route is via Passau and München. So you buy an ordinary ticket to Passau, and from Passau and onwards you can use your pass.

You can travel outside your Country of Residence as much as you like.

You can use your inbound and outbound days whenever you like - it doesn’t have to be at the beginning and end of your trip.

You only have two days to use in Austria, so you need to buy your own ticket to the border for the other days
