Hi there, Im travelling with my friend this summer and we are keen to do some hikes across Europe. We are interested in Triglav and the Dolomites but are open to other suggestions for healthy, young but begginer hikers. We are travelling in late August time, and plan to spend around 1-2 weeks travelling.

We are wanting to make the most of the interatil ticket but dont want to not take everything in.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Both Switzerland and Austria have some excellent hiking areas that can be easily accessed by train (or train + bus/ cables car to reach higher up the valley), with excellent infrastructure. Very easy to put together any itinerary you went, from a couple of hours to a few days.

Triglav requires a little bit of technical movement at the top, for which you’ll need via ferrata equipment. You can always rent this locally and / or take a guide of you need. It’s a long time ago that I went, but I seen to remember we did it in a two day trip with a night in a hut, and a very long day two.

In the Dolomites, you could look at the Alta Via, which gorgeous (& very popular!) 120km route. It starts near Cortina d’Ampezzo.

You’ll be in high season, so availability in mountain huts might be your limiting factor.

Are you looking at longer hikes or also shorter hikes(6-18km)? I personally have done a few short hikes in switzerland as plenty of places and hikes are easy to reach by train there. Which is great if you are travelling with an interrail pass.

Slovenia also has a lot to offer but often harder to reach by train(or bus).
