It is possible to buy a paper pass. Although in Switzerland you can buy this only online as SBB stopped selling it as a paper version. Maybe at the Forchbahn office you can still buy it (they are ÖBB Partner). 
if you live near Austrian or German border you can also buy it there as paper version (e.g. Lindau, Friedrichshafen, Konstanz, Bregenz, Dornbirn, Feldkirch).
