How to modify my seat reservation that I made through the Rail Planner app

I have a ticket for today, July 19 2025, from Amsterdam Central to Dusseldorf Germany at 14:01. I bought a seat reservation through the Rail Planner app, but it did not give me a choice of seats. I do not like the seat it picked so how do I modify my seat number? Is there a way to get a forward facing seat?

The rail planner app can't book anything. It only forwards to some of the websites where you can book, such as the Interrail website but also some others. So if you say you booked in the app, we still don't know where you booked. It might be Interrail, but indeed they never have any seat choice and they're also more expensive, so many people avoid booking there.

I don't have much experience with booking through the rail planner app, but unfortunately this is the reason many people avoid it.

Here is a comprehensive guide to other seat reservation booking options, many of which cost less and/or allow a choice of seats.

https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

DB run this train and allow seat choice, but charge a higher fee, so what I tend to do for German trains (if you have any others still to book) is to make a note of seat availability on their booking screen, choose the carriage and seat number you want, then go over to the website of the Czech rail operator ČD (cd.cz/en) and input those numbers there under the option to choose a specific seat, as they only charge the equivalent of €3.

EDIT: really sorry, I've only just spotted that you're travelling today, so the above is very unhelpful…

Just look out for better unoccupied seats when you board the train, there may be an overhead display or paper reservation stub which indicate the stations between which particular seats have been reserved by others.
