Question

I failed to book overnight trains using the Eurail Global Plus Pass (Beta)

Hello, I am a student from Asia, and this summer I will be in Europe for the first time in my life.

I plan to go to Switzerland for a few days, and then take the ÖBB Nightjet (seats only) to Berlin. However, I've tried several times, and it says the seat cannot be booked (see attached pictures for reference).

What confuses me is that I chose to purchase the beta pass instead of the normal ones because it stated that no additional reservation fees are required. It also did not clearly mention any limitations with the pass. The train I want to reserve is about three weeks from now, but the system says the reservation must be made in paper form.

So, do I need to give up on the Nightjet and find another way to travel to Berlin?

I‘m not familiar with the plus pass, but it seems to be a bug.

You can get a digital reservation for €5.50 on bahn.de or on the DB App (Navigator).
While searching for the connection, you toggle „seat reservation only“.
Anyways you could take the train without a reservation since it‘s usually not sold out and you are getting on in Zurich, right where the train starts.

Seat reservation is only €3 on tickets.oebb.at or cd.cz. The latter one can be cancelled until 15 minutes before departure. You could book one and cancel it once the free reservations work again. Do ask customer service why it isn't working:

I'd book at least a couchette though.

The Plus Pass explicitly says it covers Nightjet (seats only), so there’s no reason they shouldn’t be able to book this. I don’t know why it wants to give you a paper reservation. (Having said that, it does say it might cost you 1 credit - which would be very poor value, since you can make the reservation yourself for €3.)

I agree with @rvdborgt :

Make a reservation on cd.cz for 75CZK (€3). Good instructions are here (use Method 2), and make sure you select IC 60409 in the search results. Then get in touch with Interrail to see why they can’t offer an e-ticket for this route. It seems odd.

If they manage to book it for you, you can cancel your ČD reservation.
