Last year I won a 7 day 2nd class interrail pass. Can I upgrade this to a 1st class pass?

If so, how does this work?

This question is not about reservations, but about the pass.

No, it is not possible to upgrade Interrail/Eurail passes. In that case you must buy a new pass and return the old pass. The you get a refund of the cost for the old pass. But, as you won the pass, I guess this isn't possible.

@bassom

I suggest to ask the Interrail Customer Service if an exception would be possible in this case if you pay the difference, but without any guarantee that they accept.

I got an answer back, and no, it’s not possible to upgrade a pass you won.

So we are back to 2nd class.

Depending on where you're traveling, it's sometimes possible to upgrade with the individual rail company.

In the UK, Spain, sometimes in France, Norway I think. I sure there are others.

Mention your routes, and we can advise

That’s the problem, we don’t know yet :-) We don’t plan ahead. I find it easy that I don’t have to look where I sit or I have more options on reserving a seat.

And ok on the longer travels more space and a plug for charging your phone is nice.

But as for now it will be something

Barcelona along the coast to Nice, Menton and back to Aix-en-Porvence or

Barcelona, Valencia round trip to Barcelona again and to Aix-en-Provence

And last traveling day in 1 day Aix-en-Provence to Amsterdam

When you come to book your reservations in France and Spain, look out for the option to book into first class, for an extra fee.

IIRC, this isn't offered when buying on the Interrail site, but it's sometimes offered when buying on Happyrail (for Spain) and B-Europe (France), among others.

Rail Europe also sell these 1st class upgrades for France now.
