is the the oebb nightjet from hamburg to zurich punctual?

hello,

does anyone have an experience with this hamburg - zürich nighttrain (departs from hamburg at 22:08)? shall i be prepared for major delays or does it tend to be on time? i need to reserve a connecting train to paris (from offenburg), so an insider advice on how much time to reserve for the change would be very much appreciated.

thank you!

Here are the last 30 days' punctuality stats: https://www.zugfinder.net/en/train-IC_60471

It is one of the "best" night train crossing Germany in that regard (significant margin enroute).

I'd allow 1h in Offenburg. Plenty of regional trains to Strasbourg and TGVs from there as well.

I took it a few times, and it was always very late in Hamburg (about 1-1.5 hours), but it catched up on the way and was almost on time in Basel, from where it departed on time to Zurich. So in Offenburg it might be still a bit late.

oh my, that sounds like a very short night then! i checked the stats and usually it does not seem to be more late than half an hour, apart of some crazy exceptions. apparently, if i understood right, it is not a problem to buy the obligatory tgv reservation on the spot in offenburg or in strasbourg as long as the train is not sold out, right?

I'd book the TGV in advance or take a later connection. Possible with or without a change in Strasbourg. In my experience, the direct TGVs between Germany and France were often sold out on the day itself.

TGV reservations are fully refundable until 30 minutes after (!) departure! Book them on www.raileurope.com to avoid any booking fee.
