Hello, we have two girls, age 4 and 6 and we are planning a round trip to Berlin in the summer, over two weeks. We would like to stop at a couple of places on the way there, and on the way back. Coming from the UK. Any recommendations of a good route? Preferably without very long travel times!

Bruxelles is worth a stop and its directly on your route to Berlin. How many travel stops do you plan to make? And how much of detour are you willing to make from the direct Route to Berlin?

@Rachel and Stephen

It depends also on your budget and your interests. You have the classical big but expensive and overcrowded cites: Amsterdam, Cologne, Hamburg.

If industrial archaeology interests you, take a look at this attraction in Essen:

Thank you, essen was a possible on our list 🙂

Bruxelles will be our first stop I think. Ideally a couple of stops before Berlin and a couple after. As long as the journey times aren't more than about 5 hours we can detour a bit.

Leipzig or Dresden could be another Idea.

From which City do you Plan to Take the Eurostar Back to th UK?

There are direct trains to Paris from Frankfurt (via Mannheim and Karlsruhe) ca. House so you should Plan a Stop somewhere arround there. (If you want to keep your Journeys under 5 hours.)

A Tip regarding the mandatory reservations for the Highspeed trains between Germany and France. https://int.bahn.de/en/buchung/start?KL=2&ET=PASSZUSCHLAG you can use that Link to purchased them from DB (Import use that Link as they can Not be found directly on the website to purchased them you have to keep the Seat reservations toggle Off, they should cost 17€ or so)Also in May opinion the ICE is more slightly more comfortable then the TGV on that route.

The other fast Option would BE the Eurostar from Cologne (but that ones is even more expensive for the mandatory reservations)

Sounds Like a good Plan. Round Trip IS more fun then travelling on the same route in both directions.
