Just booking a pass blind as it were

Hello!

 

Having decided to go interrailing in early 2024, I’ve taken no action so far, which is really ridiculous!

 

This is probably not unconventional at all, but is it unwise at all to just book a pass with no sense of dates? I’m in a position where I could take a month or so off to go travelling and just think that booking the pass will actually spur me to take action.

 

Does anyone have any advice on this approach? Does booking a pass with absolutely no planning work?

 

For a bit more context, I have about €2300 saved for this trip. Now thinking €3000 might be more realistic…

Absolutely the best way to do it. 

You can go where you fancy, where the weather is good, stay somewhere a week if you like it or move on if you don’t.

Avoid France & Spain as much as possible (and Italy to a lesser extent) if you use this strategy, as the need for reservations will cramp your style.

You can go where you fancy, where the weather is good, stay somewhere a week if you like it or move on if you don’t.

Watch out for any sales. In previous year, that was often in March.

And trains run by Eurostar. If you want to use the Eurostar to get to mainland Europe, you should book your reservation as soon as your dates are set. Eurostar is one of the very few trains/companies which have limited seat availability for passholder.
