Kiruna station situation in August 2025

There’s a bunch of topics here on the Narvik-Kiruna connection but they are >10months old. We're doing that this Summer and running into some interesting challenges. In particular, the Kiruna-Gällivare tracks are being revised (details at https://bransch.trafikverket.se/contentassets/8f4ef0aa71e34f7fbee83cfd6da5e1b1/ns_2025_2025_06_09.pdf) and it is quite tricky to find a through-connection from Narvik via Kiruna to Boden and onwards. So this is a heads-up to anyone aiming to cover this route in August 2025.

We'll find our way across (it involves a bus for the Kiruna-Gällivare bit) but I do have a question that the SJ website hasn't answered for me. Apart from the tracks undergoing renovation, Kiruna station (along with the whole city center, famously) will be moved by a few miles due to the iron ore mine needing more space. (For us that's one reason to go check out Kiruna, in case you’re wondering.)

But my question for the rail heads: where exactly will the train stop in Kiruna in Aug 2025? I haven't been able to decipher all the Swedish information.

There's no decision yet made about the new station in Kiruna. The old station was closed in 2012 and from then there is a temporary station 1,5 km from central Kiruna. There is a free transfer bus between downtown Kiruna and the temporary station. You can find the timetable for the transfer bus in the link below.

To add  my own answer after being there last week: the station is indeed  still in the old location next to the iron worksworks, with no other attractions. The transfer bus offers a guaranteed connection to the ‘new' city; it dropped us and a lot of bewildered travellers off at a temporary stop a few  hundred meters from the main road. The old city is nearly dead and the new was not quite awake yet. The local taxi business fares well by all the confusion. We were happy we  rented a car to  explore the beautiful  environment.
