Local experience in Riga
Hello. It’s a shame you are only there for the day because I would highly recommend a trip out to Sigulda in the Gauja National Park. It takes about 90 minutes by train and it’s beautiful. Within the city, try and get out of the Old Town, even for an hour or so, to see authentic Riga. The Central Market is a great place to stock up on snacks or have a tasty and low cost lunch. The “central” district (which is not the Old Town) has lots of bars, shops and restaurants too. There is a large and efficient public transport network, though in the Old Town you can easily walk around.
