Hi!

We’re looking to travel from Matera to Rome via Interrail pass end of September this year. We have a one country interrail pass. There only seems to be one route available on the planner (which doesn't seem right?) … and it’s saying you can’t book the reservation through interrail. Does anyone know how we can do it or the best and easiest way? do you HAVE to book reservations?

Any help or advice gratefully received!

Trenitalia have a connecting bus service Matera-Salerno, which indeed only runs once per day. Reservations for that bus (mandatory) can only be booked together with a Frecciarossa reservation. That is only possible via Trenitalia. A few days in advance should be OK, at any Trenitalia ticket office.

Matera is also served by the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane. Passes are not valid, but tickets are cheap. It will take more time though.

Thank you so much!

do you know if our interrail passes will work here for the coach?  Or is this separate? Do you have to book in person at a train station or can you book online still using the passes? The issue is it’s our first destination so doesn’t give us much time to sort once arriving in the country

we have 8 day passes to use.

thanks again!

Your passes are valid. You can't book the coach online. You could also try the call centre:

https://www.trenitalia.com/en/information/our-call-centers.html

The reservation price is €5, in addition to the €13 for the Frecciarossa from Salerno to Rome.
