Hello, my wife and I are flying into Munich and are catching a train to Slovenia the next day, mid-morning. Should we stay by airport to catch train in airport or is there a better train station away from airport with hotels nearby. Thanks. were in our upper sixties, and I have not used the train system since 1982.

You can get the direct train to Slovenia from the main station - Munich Hauptbahnhof - or the Ostbahnhof.

If you have the time to spend an evening in the city, then by all means stay in the city centre, it’s well worth it. If it’s literally just an overnight, then just stay wherever hits the right balance of price and convenience - town or airport.

Either way you can get the S-Bahn into the city centre in 30-40 minutes.

Hello @Bret kraupie

You have no reason to stay at the airport, take a suburban train (S-Bahn) to the center of city. Trains leave from München Hbf (Munich main station).

However, it depends on your budget. Accommodation in the center may be more expensive. But, if you are not familiar with public transportation, a hotel near the main station may be better to avoid stress.

The obvious train station would be the main/central staton (Hauptbahnhof) or any other station were your train to slovenia starts or passes trough (München Ost?). That way you are more central and might be able to see a bit of munich before leaving again (if you are not too tired from the long flight). I am sure there are plenty of options for hotels nearby.

Ok. Thanks. so, train to city center from airport is where we can catch train to Slovenia, and there and is a good place to see the city.
