Planning on the Interrail website - a problem...

I’m trying to plan a trip on the Interrail website… but if I enter 4 destinations, it calculates 5 days of travel. To be specific:

London - Trier (day 1)

Trier -  Etoy (day 2)

Etoy - Turin (day 3)

Turin - London (day 4)

So.. if I put London as a starting point (with a 0 night stay), so I can book the travel from London to Trier, the website tells me I have 5 days of travel. Sooooo…. I am missing something or misunderstanding the logic here… Help?

Maybe, they just updated the tool so chance there will be some bugs in it.

Always use a reliable planner like www.bahn.com or www.sbb.ch/en to plan your journeys.

Doesn’t matter anyway, Torino-London is very, very doable in one day with only one change in Paris from April onwards.

Then the most direct route finally reopens due to long repairs due to an avalanche on the route about two years ago, with direct TGV’s and Frecciarossa’s from Turin to Paris.

For the next few weeks it’s still a bit fiddly and long to do it, due to the detours needed, so an extra pass day is an okay idea to split that long journey in two. But If you plan to travel in April or later, 4 days are more than enough.

No, the tool isn’t super reliable. Trust your own day counting, reasoning and logic ;)

A 4 day pass will suit you perfectly.

I just checked and most of the routes from Turin to London takes 2 days. Maybe that’s why the websites calculates one day more of traveling.

It was pointed out in another recent post that the new trip planner will calculate the travel time starting from the current time of the day. I could not really confirm this. But the planner uses really odd travel times.

Better use www.bahn.de which features probably the most complete timetable for Europe. You will get a better idea of actual travel times. Buy your pass accordingly.
