Rail carriage seating layout

Hi from Oz

My wife and I are travelling Gothenburg to Stockholm on 16 March on HSR430 with reserved seats 8 and 9 in Car 1, and then through to Oslo on 18 March on HSR 629 with reserved seats 19 and 20 in Car 1.

Could anyone advise whether these seats are side by side and forward facing or the trip?

If they are not, how does one change them?

Thanks in advance.

Seat61.com has some seat maps.

Vagonweb.cz says train 430 is an X2 (X2000) and train 629 is an X55 (SJ 3000).

The maps show that indeed these seats are side by side. In both trains facing backward, if the direction indication on Vagonweb turns out to be correct.

Hi @BlackDuck4

In Europe it is usually impossible to say if the seats are forward facing or not because car 1 is sometimes at the front and sometimes at the end of the train, depending of operational reasons. It is also impossible to change reservations, but you can choose other seats if free ones are available.

When you travel with SJ you are supposed to sit on your assigned seat, otherwise you must ask a fellow traveller to switch seats. If you choose to sit on another seat you risk that someone boarding at a later stations has reservation.

You might also speak to the train crew about switching seats as they have information about reservations.

There is no way for travellers to see which seats that are reserved between which stations on SJ trains

When you make a seat reservation through SJ you can select your seats during the purchase process. SJ has also recently added the possibility to change the seats after purchase, see below:

Even if the map on the SJ website shows a certain direction of the train, the direction of train might, due to unforseen circumstances, be the opposite on the day of the actual travel.
