I need to travel with my son from Madrid to Narbonne at 13:18 by Renfe, which are the options to make that resevation?

Rail Europe doesn't work properly in all languages for Spanish trains. Spanish is one of those languages (yes, really). If you're in the results screen in Spanish, and change the language to English, then you'll see what we see in the screenshot.

Workarounds:

  1. Change language to English before you start a search.
  2. In the screen as shown here, click on "Edit search”, and then on "Search” without changing anything.

Raileurope.com is the easiest. Use the website, not app.

You can add your pass in the search box.

I tried to make the reservation for two, from Madrid to Narbonne on june 27 at Raileurope.com website, indicating I have a Eurail global pass 2d class, and it returned this message: “Rail Pass doesn't apply for this trip”.  ¿Why could this have happened?

It definitely shows availability to me, for €10 per person.

Rail Europe has some bugs. Can you try changing your locality to Spain, instead of Colombia. Or maybe use a VPN?

Alternatively, try on happyrail.com.

That is not needed. Pass and reservations are completely separate.

It's best not to activate your pass or any travel day in advance.

Great that it worked.

No, you don’t need to activate the pass yet. Just activate it on your first day of travel.

Do I have to print Renfe reservation?

You don't have to: you can show the PDF or if you want (easier to scan) you can import them in the Renfe app. You can also print them at the Renfe long distance ticket machines.

Do you happen to know which format the ticket machines print the ticket in? Is it one of the standard European formats like this?

Yes, still using the CIT 1996 standard.

Great! I love those. So also the Interrail Reservations booked online (via Happyrail/Interrail Self Service) are printed using the CIT standard?

As far as I know the ticket machines can only print on these tickets. I know they can't print tickets involving a change but I have no reason to assume they won't manage to print a ticket (or reservation) booked through a third party

Should be no problem because Interrail and Happyrail both provide reservations which look like the official tickets sold by RENFE. I assume that’s also the case with reservations booked through RailEurope or International Rail.

But I always found it easier to import the seat reservations into the RENFE app.

Yes, these all sell reservations from the Renfe system.
