Hi - any advice please on how to approach reservations for July for journey 3 passholders and 1 non passholder Lake Bled to Budapest.  And then Budapest to Prague a few days later.  We would all like to sit/travel together.  First time interrailing - I think I can deal with the 3 passholder bookings but not sure how to navigate with this additional non pass.  Any steer/advice much appreciated.

Just book seat reservation for four. Only optional reservations in the countries you’re going to travel through.

Route Bled-Budapest will be probably as follows

Bled-Jesenice-Villach-Vienna-Budapest. Trains to Jesenice and Villach are not reservable. Villach-Vienna and Vienna Budapest, get them via. www.oebb.at/en (select seat reservation only). You can reserve four seats so you can sit together, even with the non-pass holder.

Same for Budapest-Prague, either via Vienna or direct. If it goes via Vienna, reserve via ÖBB. Otherwise via Czech Railways. Here’s a guide

Many thanks Brendan.  Struggling to book Trieste to Ljubljana on 12th July - does say not required but I am thinking best book.  Do you have any knowledge of ?  Do they only release for booking few months in advance.?

Try via ÖBB, but don’t select seat reservations only. Proceed like booking normal tickets, but add interrail as a discount under the passenger details.

If you take the EC you need a supplement when travelling with interrail. You can avoid that by taking the regional service to Ljubljana a bit earlier on the day.
