The train operator’s webpage does not require seat reservations, however eurail shows that it’s required. Why is this? Can I follow the rules from the train operator? Is it mandatory to reserve a seat on Eurail?

It would help if you mention the journey and operator!

Rome-Florence, 27 january. In the page of trenitalia it is not mandatory to reserve a seat or in case you want to, you have to pay only 2€ while eurail says that is mandatory the seat reservation for that route

The seat reservation is included in the ticket. A seat is randomly assigned to you. However seat selection costs 2€ extra.

You may take the slower regional trains to avoid any reservation.

Departure time still missing (we ask that for a reason!) but since it's Rome-Florence, it's probably a Frecciarossa with mandatory seat reservations. Best place to book is raileurope.com.
