Seat reservation through interrail website (pass activation?) or happyrail/etc?

Hi! I have this big doubt regarding a seat reservation, precisely from milano centrale to basel sbb, at the beginning of september: usually people suggest to book on Oebb app, but it says it's not available.

I never booked a seat reservation on the official interrail website, because of the extra commissions, but it seems the only solution (beside Happyrail, which I've just discovered and I don't know if it's legit).

My concern is not really about the fees: the interrail website requires a pass number, and mine is purchased but not activated yet (i wanted to activate it the day before the departure).

So my two questions are:

1) If i purchase the seat reservation on official interrail website, logging in with my profile (the same I purchased the pass), will it mean it will activate my pass, already?

2) is happyrail a safe website to book seat reservations? Does it require pass number as well?

ÖBB can book reservations. If you see "not available”, then, ifticket sales is indeed open for your train, you're not using the correct booking method. For this train, you need to add the Interrail/Eurail discount and NOT select "Seat reservation only”.Reservations are entirely separate from the pass. Booking a reservation does not activate your pass.Happyrail is a safe site. It does have extra fees though (like the Interrail website), so ÖBB should be cheaper.

Thanks for your answer! Unfortunately it says not available even though I searched with the correct method you mentioned. Also, idk why, but milano-zurich can be booked, milano-basel not. I will not book a non-direct train though, so thanks again for your precise answer, it was so helpful!
