We need seat reservations for Budapest to Cluj Napoca in two weeks time. MAV Hungary website. Repeated attempts on MAV Hungary website that Interrail links to have failed. We arrive in Budapest 36 hours before so would like to have the reservations before we set out on our trip.

Train IC75 on 25th May dep Budapest Keleti 0910 arr Cluj Napoca 1928. Interrail search shows a through train. MAV web booking shows replacement bus between Arad and Simeria. The website allows me to choose the 0910 departure, add the Interrail discount for each passenger, shows the cost as 760HUF each, I check the terms and conditions but then it shows a message in red and does not give an opportunity to put my payment details in.

When I do that, I get a warning:

When I then click on "I'd like to accept it”, I still get something that looks like a reservation:

I can then accept the conditions and proceed to pay. I could get to where I need to enter the 2nd factor for my card and then cancelled the payment. I already have a card stored in my MÁV account from previous reservations.

Note: the fact that the Interrail website shows a through train just means that the timetable is not up to date.

Today, the MAV website successfully took me through all stages to passenger data. The data on this page is correct. I am then unable to progress to Seating properties and Payment. There is no button for accept or next. Pressing enter scraps the whole process.

Sounds like that page is incomplete. The Next button on Passenger properties is supposed to be at the bottom right:

Alternatively, you can call MÁV or go to a ticket office as soon as you get to a ticket office (doesn't need to be in Hungary, although I'm not sure how others will handle IC75 after the replacement bus).

Many thanks for your help. We will be in Germany before getting to Budapest. Perhaps they can help. I wonder how much IC75 gets booked. Coming from the UK, I get concerned about booking reservations because of the limit Eurostar place on the number.

Eurostar and TGV Brussels-France are the only trains with limited seats for passholders in fact.

So you get reservations until the train is full.

DB should be able to sell you reservations at least for the first leg of your journey into Romania.

DB should be able to sell you reservations at least for the first leg of your journey into Romania.

The downside being that it will be €5.50 (or €6.90 in 1st) instead of €2...
