sweden to Dublin

Question

Hi everyone! Its my first time here.Im planning my trip over christmas to Ireland. I was thinking of purchasing the 6 days w/month for one country pass.So, from sweden to Dublin. The planner says it takes 2 days. And saving another 2 days for the return.I also want to travel to different counties withing Ireland (7 counties/cities to be exact)How would you recommend doing this? Is it even possible to cover all this with a 6 day pass? But a global pass seems unnecessary for just one country? Another question. I wanted to travel using the pass from Dublin to Galway. I used the app, to lay out the plan and there are no given routes. No busses or trains going there. How could that be, when on the website its one of the destinations given? Has anyone traveled to Ireland from scandinavia? If so, what route do you recommend? Thank you much :)

Without flying 2 days would be needed, yes. It’s a long way and there are some substantial bits of water to cross.

A one country pass is only valid within that country, not for travelling to/from that country.

Yes, there are trains linking major Irish destinations, the timetables aren’t currently in the Interrail systems beyond December 7.

All trains in Ireland are valid with Interrail, buses, trams and ferries are not. Ferries between Britain and Ireland give a small discount for Interrail holders but there are other options that may be be better value with non-interrail tickets.

Regular fares in Ireland bought from the operators are not that expensive and may be better value than Interrail.

The railway lines are not as extensive in Ireland as in some other countries and buses may be required to get to some places, Northern Ireland in particular has very few railways.

Be aware that In Ireland (and most of the UK) on December 25 there will be no public transport, Dec 26 will have very limited service and Dec 24 is relatively normal up until early evening with services finishing earlier than normal.

Where are you starting from?You could just about do Malmö<>Dublin in two days, with an overnight in Brussels. But Stockholm would be harder.Coming back to Sweden, it’s a bit easier.
